Quality of Life:
From the time Mike married his wife Susan and they began starting their family in 1991 he has heard consistently that more needed to be done to help our children to stay on Long Island when they became adults.
Since then the rhetoric is still the same and our children and seniors continue to leave Long Island in droves.
As an Accountant and Financial Advisor, when Mike speaks with his clients about their Financial Planning needs, the reasons they most often cite when considering leaving Long Island are the following:
- High Taxes
- Lack of Jobs
- Unaffordable Housing Options
- Lack of Transportation
- High Cost of Living
Albany again has done little to combat these issues. Our Elected Officials on all levels of Government need to work together to formulate a plan of action and make Long Island more affordable. They need to establish comprehensive program that will attract build a better transportation infrastructure, attract new businesses to create jobs, consider housing options and reduce taxes.
Without planning in these areas and a concerted effort by our elected officials to take action, we will continue to see our loved ones leave Long Island and New York State and never break the cycle of people continuing to leave.
Once a week during the farming season Mike works on the Biophilia Organic Farm in Jamesport where he helps to cultivate and harvest organic fruits and vegetables. On weekends Mike and his family try to experience the diverse outdoor festivals and fairs that New York has to offer.
Mike knows that Long Island and all of New York State has so much to offer and if it is not preserved properly one day we will all look back and wonder where everything we love about our environment has gone.
As a resident of Shoreham and a previous member of the Shoreham Wading River School Board Mike knows what is like to have to balance the needs of the community and the preservation of the neighborhood surroundings.
Since moving to Shoreham with his wife Susan and their three children in 1999 he has seen his community go through many changes and there has always been a constant concern of over development of the small community.
Faced with the possibility of mixed use communities being developed, the uncertain future of the land around the Shoreham Power Plant and the development of multiple Solar Farms he has seen what can be accomplished when a community of people express their opinions, share their thoughts in an open forum and work with their elected officials to balance the community’s needs and quality of life with their desire for progress.
Mike would like to bring his experience, knowledge and willingness to work towards common goals to Albany to ensure that our environment and quality of life is maintained while balancing the needs of Long Island and New York State as a whole.
